the zen of carving
according to C.J.D

exhibition list

I have always preferred hands-on 3d media. Years ago I took a summer course in carving at R.I.S.D under the expert guidance of Arnold Prince. I fell in love with the process of hand carving - marking high points, seeing through the piece of stone or wood as the planes shift and inter-connect... I have found it to be hard but extremely gratifying work as I transform rough stone or a wood into a soft, organic form that feels alive. I try to create a sense of movement and expression in each piece. Like most people who are absorbed in their creative work, it often seems as though I am merely a mediator, something greater than myself is making the decisions that cause these forms to take shape. I am thankful for this gift and hope to be even more proficient with the years I have
left to carve.
